What is a holistic nutritionist?
As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist I follow a code of ethics and scope of practice. I use evidence and science based tools to help my clients overcome health concerns and achieve their health goals. Like most holistic practitioners I look at my clients as a whole. I believe the body-mind-spirit are all connected and this is why a holistic nutritionist should never just talk to you about the food on your plate. I take into account your sleep, stress levels, diet, exercise and lifestyle habits. Since each person has a unique bio-chemistry, each person has unique nutritional requirements. During our initial consultation we will dive deep into the root cause of your concerns to identify nutritional imbalances and I work my recommendations based on that. I often provide meal plans and recipes as well as teach you how to read labels and navigate the mountain of nutrition information out there. Proper nutrition is key to living a long and balanced life.

What happens in your appointments?
When you see a holistic nutritionist and you are already a patient of one of our Naturopathic Doctors, you will go through an assessment to determine your next steps and how to implement a nutrition plan with the greatest success. Your ND and holistic nutritionist will discuss the best way to balance all steps in your treatment plan.

If you are not a current patient at our clinic and you schedule an initial appointment with a holistic nutritionist you will fill out our new client intake form, review this with your holistic nutritionist during your initial assessment and begin implementing your protocol shortly thereafter.

In both cases, you are provided with a protocol that is specific to you. You will be given this protocol, along with recipe collections or a meal plan to assist you in achieving your health goals. Typically, this includes 3-4 items of focus, but it is always dependent on you as an individual. The protocol is typically made accessible to you within 3-4 business days.

Acupuncture balances the body's vital energy, known as Qi (Chi), maintaining harmony between the body, mind, and environment. Our bodies have pathways, called meridians, through which qi flows. Blockages or imbalances in this energy can lead to pain or illness.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system, releasing endorphins and other chemicals that can help reduce pain and promote healing for many health conditions and concerns.

Acupuncture is often used to manage chronic pain, acute injury (such as sciatica, rotator cuff, tendonitis, knee injury, trigeminal neuralgia), headaches, migraines, digestive issues, anxiety, insomnia, fertility, menstrual irregularities, supporting cancer survivors, and many other conditions.

Many people find acupuncture sessions to be deeply relaxing, with some even falling asleep during treatment.

Overall, acupuncture aims to restore balance and improve health through a holistic approach.

Dr. Mihaela Chirhei ND is now on maternity leave. Please book in with one of our other Naturopathic Physicians. She will be returning in 2025.

Dr Mihaela Chirhei’s ND passion for health and wellbeing was incited at a young age and her path towards naturopathic medicine was solidified once she learned of the vast array of tools NDs can use to help patients.

During her early years in Moldova, she was exposed to the value of holistic healing and felt drawn towards this model of care. Later on, while studying for a Bachelor of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University she further recognized the value of a preventative approach and the various influences on our state of health. Dr Chirhei completed her naturopathic medical training at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster.

A patient-led treatment is the approach I use in my TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practice. It’s your body. It’s your health journey. And you know best how your body has responded to all sorts of stimulus throughout your life. Through a TCM approach, we can address digestive issues, muscular injury, repetitive strain, support for cancer survivors, chronic fatigue, immune support, or other concerns.

I remember suffering from IBS and stomach pain in my early 20s and muscular shoulder cramps in my 30s. I sought a lot of professional help during these decades. And acupuncture was one of the modalities that significantly healed me. It’s amazing to me that I feel healthier now in my 40s than I did in my younger years. It is why I pursued this career. And I am grateful to be able to share this healing modality now through TCM and acupuncture.

I use techniques to reduce discomfort and pain during your acupuncture treatment. I can also use magnets instead of needles, which is especially helpful for treating older children, teens, or anyone not fond of needles.

In your treatment, I can recommend potential diet or lifestyle changes through a TCM lens, to promote healing and maintain health. Again, working with you is the focus. What can we work on that will be sustainable, and within your existing lifestyle and diet?

I have been living in Langley for over 16 years with my partner and son. You may occasionally see me skateboarding in the neighborhood, hiking the Houston Trail, or riding my motorbike in Glen Valley. I also enjoy a good book indoors on a rainy day. And I enjoy a good pun. So if you know one, needles to say, I would love to hear it.
